I saw something very concerning today. I saw what appeared to be a blind person's cane in the middle of the road, tattered and beaten. I hope the owner is safe and sound.

Perhaps they used their cane to beat the living daylights out of oncoming traffic and, being thus the victor, left it in the road for all to remember.
That person is probably sitting in a restaurant right now, toasting themselves for their command over morning rush hour traffic.
