v1 here I come

So here I am sitting on 7 draft posts which are all "basically depressing" and I can't help but notice that is what my blog has been lately, depressing. So in order to change the mood if just for today I'm going talk about something I enjoy. Climbing, I know its a strange hobby but a few of you have be tricked into going in days past and I think we had a generally good time. Specifically I enjoy bouldering. Its a ball and its not as scary as climbing due its proximity to the ground. Just as a note I'm horrible, which I think is sort of why it appeals to me.

Obviously its a physical hobby which is nice considering the copious amounts of time I spend on my ass all day but also its mentally challenging. Some people, including myself consider it sort of like a short physical chess match. Most bouldering problems (problems being routes or paths to the end) usually require a certain technique or body contortion to make happen. You can sit there and force, pull, and strain you body through these moves or you can find the right way to hold, position, or twist you body and in that moment it seems effort less. Now this isn't always the case, sometimes you just have to be f'ing strong and those ones are hard but you slowly build that strength and it becomes measurable. Its sort of like running, what was once unimaginable becomes a sort of joke.

Also unlike what I've experienced with climbing and other sports, bouldering is much more social, its like hanging out with your friends at the gym but not procrastinating about the workout, but actually enjoying it, talking about, and encouraging other to excel or get over their personal hurdles. Also there is very few elitist attitudes, the best boulderers are willing to assist, spot, and encourage the guy that is climbing for the first time or just sucks (i.e. me). Either way its a ball and if anyone wants to go sometime let me know and we can get out. Honestly I enjoy the gym the most, but they say that is because I just haven't become good enough yet and when I do I will like going outside more. Until then who wants to hit the gym?
